About Bloomingdale Bog Trail.
This 16-mile rail-trail is situated in the Adirondack Forest Preserve in New York's Franklin County. It connects Lake Kushaqua and State Route 86/Harrietstown Rd. (Lake Colby), offering opportunities for mountain biking, walking, and cross-country skiing.
Following an old rail bed, the trail features surfaces of dirt, gravel, and sand. Its southern segment notably runs through a bog. Users should be aware that beavers have sometimes dammed the stream, potentially requiring walkers to dismount or get wet feet.
While mostly flat and suitable for beginner mountain cyclists, the trail can have bumpy sections due to tree roots and sandy areas that make pedaling tougher. Reviewers note that black flies and other bugs can be present until late June or early July.
Access the trail about 1.3 miles north of the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake by turning right onto a dirt road and bearing left to park at the gate. Alternatively, parking is available at the northern end off CR 60/Gabriels-Onchita Road.
