Browse the activity directory at adirondackregion.com/pursuits — each pursuit has its own atlas with maps and current conditions.
Most Adirondack trails are free and require no permit. Check the trail page on adirondackregion.com/pursuits/trails for current DEC requirements before you go.
Late June through early October is the safest, easiest window — trails are dry, alpine zones are accessible, and waters are crossable. Mud season (mid-April to early June) closes many high-elevation trails per DEC advisory. See the live 46er atlas at adirondackregion.com/46ers for trip planning by peak.
There are hundreds of public launches across the Park — DEC hand-launches (free, often unmaintained), state-managed boat launches (free, paved), and town/private launches. Browse mapped paddle launches with directions and lake details at adirondackregion.com/lakes.
Most Adirondack trails allow leashed dogs. Restrictions apply on alpine summits (above 3,500 ft, leash-required to protect alpine vegetation), in the AMR / Ausable Club private trail system (no dogs), and at some swimming beaches. The trail detail page on adirondackregion.com lists per-trail dog rules.
