Adirondack Rail Trail · Tupper Lake Trailhead

This 34-mile multipurpose pathway spans from Lake Placid to Tupper Lake, connecting the communities of Lake Placid, Saranac Lake, and Tupper Lake. Designed for year-round use by all ages and abilities, it allows residents and visitors to engage in healthy exercise, connect with nature, and explore Adirondack history. The trail is officially managed by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC). The Adirondack Rail Trail Association (ARTA) partners with NYS DEC to support trail maintenance and amenities. Resources such as a detailed trail map and information on parking areas are available. Phase 3, extending the trail from Floodwood Road to Tupper Lake, has recently opened. The Lake Placid trailhead at Station Street is currently under construction, with plans for new bathrooms, picnic areas, and signs. Temporary parking is available at the snow field lot on Old Military Road.
