§ Field Notes
About Indian Lake Marina.
Lakeshore Drive in Sabael, on the west side of Indian Lake, the long body of water that defines this stretch of Route 30. The marina's real job is access. Indian Lake has 55 boat-access-only DEC campsites, primitive and quiet, and four boat-access-only picnic spots, none of which a road traveler ever sees. This is the operation that gets you there.
The rental fleet covers the use cases. New 20- to 22-foot pontoons for groups, families, and lunch runs to the campsites. Single and double kayaks for the bay-and-island paddlers. Paddleboards for the calm-water days. The staff plans backcountry overnights, drops you at the trailhead for the 1.5-mile Baldface Mountain climb, and brings you back on a scheduled pickup.
The boat-access campsites are dog-friendly and primitive, which is the right structure for an Adirondack overnight on a big lake. Day-trippers can paddle or motor to the picnic spots set into the wooded shoreline, with the inflows to Indian Lake giving the better swimming and fishing pockets. Best for visitors who want the back side of Indian Lake without owning a boat. Confirm current rates and reservation lead time directly.
