§ Field Notes
About Haystack Mountain Trailhead.
This is the trailhead for the lower Haystack Mountain near Lake Placid village, distinct from the High Peaks summit. The hike is short and rocky in the upper sections, leading to a summit with clear views of the McKenzie Range and the High Peaks. It's a suitable option for visitors seeking elevation and views without committing to a full High Peaks day. The parking area is small and fills quickly on summer weekends. Access is year-round, though expect ice on upper rocks through April. It's recommended for those who have already hiked McKenzie or Cobble and want another short hike from a Lake Placid base.
