Big Brook Road in Indian Lake, in the central Adirondacks. Thornbush Acres is one of the better-set-up private RV parks in this region: 46 large pull-through sites, full hookups, 30/50 amp service. The size-and-shape of the sites matters more than the photos suggest, particularly for the larger Class A rigs that don't fit easily into older campgrounds.

Free Wi-Fi covers the whole property. A bathhouse and dump station handle the standard RV needs. The campstore stocks RV supplies, propane, live bait, fishing tackle, and local crafts, which keeps the trip-day errand stack manageable without driving back into the village.

Indian Lake itself is the access point for the Hudson Gorge whitewater run, which is why the village brands itself as the white-water capital of New York. From this base, the major paddling, fishing, and hiking opportunities of the central Adirondacks open up within a 30-minute drive. Hosts are George and Jeannie P. Puterko, which keeps the operation small and personal. Open mid-May through mid-October.
