This approachable summit offers a short, rewarding climb with expansive views that exceed expectations for its modest elevation. It serves as an excellent introduction to the Adirondack backcountry, making it a natural starting point for families, newer hikers, or anyone looking to ease into the region's trails.
Situated conveniently off Route 9N, between the towns of Keene and Elizabethtown, Baxter Mountain provides an accessible outdoor experience. The hike covers a distance of 2.4 miles round-trip, ascending approximately 800 feet to the summit, which stands at an elevation of 2,428 feet.
