§ Field Notes
About Historic Copeland Covered Bridge.
Constructed in 1879 by Arad Copeland, this 35-foot single-span structure crosses Beecher Creek in Edinburg, Saratoga County. It features a Queenpost truss design, making it New York State's only historic covered bridge of this type. Originally built to provide access to Copeland's garden and pasture land, it now carries pedestrian traffic.
The bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998. It remained within the Copeland family until 1997, when great-great-grandson Robert Tyrrell and his wife Betty graciously donated it to the Edinburg Historical Society.
In partnership with the town, the Edinburg Historical Society undertook a full restoration of the bridge and site improvements between 2000 and 2003, with a re-dedication celebration in 2002. Maintained by the Society, this bridge is the sole remaining covered bridge in Saratoga County and serves as a popular attraction for visitors, often photographed and painted.
