§ Field Notes
About Rock and River.
Alstead Hill Road in Keene, on a private mountain-valley property surrounded by thousands of acres of state-owned wilderness. Rock and River has run since 1988 as a family business specializing in whole-building lodge rentals, which is the differentiator: groups book the entire structure rather than individual rooms.
Two lodges sit on the property. The Guide's House sleeps 14 across multiple bedrooms, with the common spaces, kitchen, and porches an extended family or a club group needs. The Climber's Lodge sleeps 12, set up similarly. Both rent in their entirety, which keeps the experience private for the booking party.
The Adirondack-style design language runs through both: timber framing, big stone fireplaces, screened porches, the kind of room that doesn't try to be a hotel. Best for extended families and small clubs running a multi-day stay; not for couples wanting a single room. Confirm current rates, available dates, and minimum-night requirements directly.
