§ What it does

Four reasons it's on your home screen.

GPS

What's close.

Tap once. The app finds the nearest peaks, lakes, trails, and local businesses to where you're standing — sorted by distance, with elevation, water type, and trail length on the row.

Camera

Contribute what you see.

Take a photo of a trail register, a lakeshore, a hand-painted sign at a local diner. It lands in our editorial queue and — once approved — adds to the public field guide alongside your name.

Live data

Trail conditions you can trust.

DEC backcountry advisories, snowpack status, mud-season closures, and weather forecasts pulled hourly. We surface them on the page for the trail or peak you're already reading about.

Offline

No signal, no problem.

The directory lives in your local cache. Even when the cell service drops in the High Peaks, the field guide stays open: addresses, phone numbers, trail lengths, and your saved places are right there.

§ Privacy

Your location stays on your device.

When you tap “Near you,” iOS asks your permission; your phone sends us coordinates to query the directory, then forgets. We never log them, never store them, never sell them.

We don't track you across other apps and websites. The App Tracking Transparency prompt doesn't appear because we're not asking for anything to track.
