We've probably got a quick answer.
The questions below cover most of what people ask. If yours isn't here, drop us a note at the email further down — we read every message.
Why is the app asking for my location?
The 'Near you' tab uses your phone's GPS to find peaks, lakes, trails, and local businesses closest to where you're standing. Your coordinates are sent to our server only when you tap 'Use my location' — never automatically, never in the background. We don't log, store, or share them.
Why is the app asking to send notifications?
We use notifications sparingly — typically when a new field guide ships (Fall Foliage, Whitewater Rafting, etc.) or when a major trail advisory affects a popular destination. We ask for permission on your second app launch, not your first, so you have a chance to see what we do before deciding.
Why is the app asking for my camera or photo library?
We ask only when you tap '+ Contribute a photo' on a listing detail page. Photos go to our editorial review queue and — if approved — get published with your name (or anonymously if you're not signed in). We never auto-upload photos.
How do I disable location, camera, or notifications later?
Open the Settings app → scroll to Adirondack Region → tap any permission to change it. The app will continue to work; features that need that permission will simply prompt you again the next time you use them.
I'm a business owner and my listing has the wrong information.
Tap the 'Claim this listing' link on your business's detail page, or email us at hello@adirondackregion.com with the listing URL and what's wrong. We'll either give you direct edit access (free) or correct it ourselves within a business day.
The app says I'm not in the Park.
The 'Near you' surface searches within 15 miles by default. If you're more than 15 miles outside Park boundaries, the result will be empty. Open any region page (Lake Placid, Lake George, etc.) directly from the menu for a curated view instead.
How do I delete my account?
Email hello@adirondackregion.com from the address on your account. We will delete your user record, any photos you submitted, push tokens, and saved places within 7 days and confirm via reply. We don't retain copies.
Is there a Pro / paid tier?
Not yet. A $35/year membership (annual only — we don't sell a lifetime plan because that would commit us to running this site forever) is in waitlist at /pro. Founding members get a discount when it launches.
We answer email.
Send us a note at hello@adirondackregion.com. Include your iPhone model and iOS version if you're reporting a bug — most of the time that's enough for us to diagnose.
Reply time is usually a day or two — sometimes faster if we're between guide ships.
