Moffit Beach Campground.

Sacandaga Lake, in the central Adirondacks at 1,730 feet, in a flat, well-wooded landscape of large white pines and hardwoods. Moffit Beach is one of the bigger DEC campgrounds in this region at 247 sites, which makes it a working option for groups and families who don't want to gamble on smaller-facility availability in July and August.

Swimming is from designated beach areas, unsupervised by lifeguards. Pets are permitted on a leash no longer than 6 feet, with proof of current rabies vaccination. Pets are not allowed inside facility structures, on the beach, or in day-use areas. Each site is limited to 6 individuals plus either two tents or one hard-wheeled camping unit with one tent, and two vehicles. Check-in 2 p.m. to 9 p.m., check-out 11 a.m. Site registration requires an adult 18 or older.

Quiet hours 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. are strictly enforced. Generators have limited usage windows. Fires only in provided fireplaces, dead-and-down wood only, no chainsaws. Firearms generally prohibited except during published Fall and Spring hunting seasons (and never discharged inside the campground). Best for families who want a real DEC car-camping experience on a quieter alternative to the bigger Lake George campgrounds.
