About Camp Pine Knot.
Camp Pine Knot is where the Adirondack Great Camp began. Starting around 1877 on Long Point, William West Durant assembled a cluster of peeled-log lodges, twig railings, and stonework chimneys that became the template every later camp copied. Durant later sold it to Collis P. Huntington; today it is SUNY Cortland's Huntington Memorial Camp, used for outdoor education, with occasional public tours and programs rather than open daily visiting.
