About Adirondack Birding Center.
The Adirondack Center for Loon Conservation is dedicated to protecting common loons, iconic symbols of wilderness in the Adirondack Park's freshwater lakes. Recognizing loons as environmental sentinels, the center works to understand and mitigate human pressures, ensuring loons thrive and educating communities on the importance of intact ecosystems.
The center implements various programs, including an Annual Loon Census, 'Fish Lead-Free' to reduce lead poisoning, and 'Loon Friendly Lakes' to promote healthy habitats. Research and conservation efforts are central to their work, ensuring the long-term well-being of the loon population. Guided paddles offer public learning opportunities.
For loon enthusiasts, the center operates a Loon Center Store. They encourage public participation through an interactive loon map where observations can be added, and provide educational content via their Loon Blog on topics like avian flu and loon behaviors.
The Adirondack Center for Loon Conservation is located at 75 Main St., Saranac Lake, NY 12983, and is open to visitors Wednesdays through Sundays from 10 am to 5 pm.
