About Bloomingdale Bog Hiking Trail.
This 16-mile rail-trail is situated within the Adirondack Forest Preserve in Franklin County, New York. It connects Lake Kushaqua to Lake Colby (State Route 86/Harrietstown Road) and is a popular destination for mountain bikers, hikers, walkers, and cross-country skiers. The trail follows an old rail bed, providing a mostly flat path suitable for various activity levels.
The southern segment of the trail passes through a bog, where beaver activity may occasionally require users to walk their bikes through shallow water. While generally flat, some sections can be bumpy due to tree roots. The trail surfaces include dirt, gravel, and sand, offering a diverse experience for outdoor enthusiasts.
Users should be aware of black flies and other insects, particularly until late June or early July. Parking is available at both ends of the trail. The southern access point is about 1.3 miles north of the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake, off NY 86. The northern end can be accessed from CR 60/Gabriels-Onchita Road.
