§ Field Notes
About The Silo.
Aviation Road in Queensbury, on the corridor between the Northway and Lake George Village. The silo-shaped building is the landmark; the kitchen and the cider donuts are the reason to stop. The Silo has been a steady stop for ADK travelers and Queensbury locals for decades, working a deliberate small-town hospitality posture rather than chasing chain-restaurant standardization.
Breakfast is the bigger menu. Generous portions: large omelets, fluffy pancakes, and biscuits with sausage gravy that get cited regularly as among the best breakfast plates in Upstate New York. Lunch shifts to the deli-sandwich side: the Farm Hand and the White Forest are signatures, served with sweet potato fries and melba sauce.
The country gift shop is the second business on the property. Chocolates, local gadgets, and the cider donuts (made year-round) move briskly through the shelves. The combined room is family-friendly by design: come to wait for a table, browse, take donuts home. Open seven days a week 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Indoor seating only. Best for breakfast or lunch as part of a Lake George day, and for cider donut runs on the drive out.
