About The Iron Center.
The Iron Center Museum, operated by the Town of Moriah Historical Society, is housed in a restored carriage house that once served as a carriage house, ice house, and ore testing laboratory for the Witherbee-Sherman Mining Company. The museum details the area's significant iron ore mining industry, which was vital from the 1820s to 1971, and its impact on the community. Exhibits cover the preparation, processing, and transport of iron ore, highlighting Port Henry's role as a major producer. The surrounding Railroad and Mining Heritage Park features other historic structures like the former company office (now Town Offices) and the train depot, along with outdoor displays of locomotives and ore cars.
