About Loch Muller Trailhead Parking.
This parking area serves as the southern access point for the Hoffman Notch Trail, a scenic route through the Hoffman Notch Wilderness Area. Hikers can embark on a 7.25-mile round-trip journey or utilize this as a starting point for a longer 14.7-mile point-to-point traverse, which offers less elevation gain when beginning from Loch Muller Road.
The trail itself features wetland areas, small cascades, and dense forests. Notable points include Big Marsh, which resembles a pond midway, and sections that follow Hoffman Notch Brook, providing ample scenic views. While not overly challenging, the trail does involve unbridged stream crossings and can have muddy sections.
In winter, the Hoffman Notch Trail transforms into a classic destination for intermediate to advanced cross-country skiers and snowshoers. Visitors should be prepared for various winter conditions and exercise caution at water crossings. The trailhead is located at the end of Loch Muller Road, accessible via Hoffman Road from Route 9 in Schroon Lake.
