About Heaven Hill Trails.
This extensive 5-mile+ trail system is owned and maintained by the Henry Uihlein II and Mildred A. Uihlein Foundation, benefiting area residents and visitors alike. Officially opened in 2015, the trails are designed for walking, skiing, mountain biking, and snowshoeing, with a strict prohibition on motorized or equestrian use. It offers a diverse outdoor experience for enthusiasts of all ages.
Visitors can explore several distinct loops, each offering unique features. The 0.9-mile Big Field Loop winds through a black ash swamp and a late successional forest before opening onto a large field with High Peaks views and opportunities to spot wildlife like Bobolinks and White-tailed Deer. The 1.5-mile Old Orchard Loop, accessible via the Orchard Connector, traverses an old cow pasture, providing stunning High Peaks vistas and a chance to observe various birds, plants, and butterflies.
The Bear Cub Loop, also 1.5 miles, leads through hardwood forest and balsam fir-spruce swampland, offering excellent views of the High Peaks, particularly from its northern half and at the intersection with Bear Cub 2.
