About Slate Valley Museum.
The museum preserves and shares the history of slate quarrying and the community it fostered along the New York-Vermont border, beginning in the 1800s. Today, many of these quarries are still in operation, supplying the majority of colored roofing slate in the United States. Visitors can explore exhibitions on topics such as immigration, labor history, and the WPA mural, as well as access a collections database and historical research resources. The museum also offers educational programs and special events throughout the year.
